My wife and I went here as we were staying in nearby Palisade and wanted a good steakhouse experience. The place is really cozy tucked into a corner of downtown Grand Junction. While the decor did feel older, it still gave a nice ambiance. We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops for apps, then my wife ordered the seafood bisque and I ordered the dry aged porterhouse that was off menu. We love bisque but when theirs came out we thought it was somewhat of a small portion for the price. We've had similar servings in very nice steakhouses for about half the price. The flavor was good, and we detected a wine base or accent which was good. The steak was $72 and was ordered medium. I felt it was a little over done but overall was cooked well. The sides were pretty standard, baked potatoe, fries, daily vegetable. If you're expecting lobster mac and cheese or seared Brussel sprouts with an apple cider reduction go elsewhere. This place is old school, no espresso just drip coffee and proud of it. All in all, this place was a good "go to" and better than other options in the area. Relaxed dress code as well which was nice.

Place has really stepped their game up. I am comfortable saying this the best fine dining restaurant in Grand Junction.

New to Grand Junction, started going to the bar for appetizers, which are fantastic! My husband just took me there for Valentine's dinner. Fantastic! Our server, she was professional, the food, absolutely fantastic! Kudos to the chefs for making our night special, and the manager, I think that is who he is, for giving every woman a single, beautiful, red rose:)

The outdoor patio seemed to be the best place in the establishment. The interior was darkish like that of a steak house. Some beautiful stained glass pieces around. We were seated right away. Just was not that busy there on this particular Sat night. 8 at 8 for dinner. The overall service was very attentive and the wine selection very nice. The menu had wine selections paired with the entrees. A nice touch. The meal was well serviced and our waiter was great! Barack was very charming and navigated our group with finesse. The overall experience was positive. Soup to nuts the dishes were very good.

Love, love, love. The food is just awesome, from appetizers to dessert. My favs include the Cajun popcorn shrimp appetizer, the salmon with herb butter, and the apple crisp dessert. The steak is perfect every time, too, and their Cesar dressing is spot on, which I don't think you often find. We've always enjoyed excellent service. The addition of the pretty outdoor patio is awesome--our anniversary last year was memorable because of it. The weather was perfect, the patio was quiet tucked in the breezeway off Main Street, and they had live music.

I enjoyed the patio, jazz music and ambiance. The waiter was awesome as well as the wine.

Nice quiet place to bring clients and friends. Food is $$$ but very good. Staff wears tux style clothing and the service is great. Open kitchen too if you enjoy watching the food cooking.

My wife and I loved our entrees, prime rib, and a white fish fillet special with mango salsa. Both were extraordinarily good. I found my steamed veggies (came with the fish) oversteamed, but I see another reviewer complained that the steamed veggies weren't cooked long enough. We both had red wine sangria and enjoyed it. This is definitely a restaurant where the chefs (and food buyers) are serious about great food. Portions are generous. Service was friendly and gracious.

A little pricey, bug worth every penny. They say they are a steak house, but I would simply say they are gone dining. American cuisine. Our group had steaks, and pork loins with peach salsa, and a chicken dish that was a special request. All got great reviews, especially the pork tenderloin, which was one of the specials. Great wine list and impeccable service.

I got the ribeye with a side caesar salad This place has a pretty neat vibe inside. It is almost medieval. I was passing through for work and my group decided we needed a good steak. We asked three locals we were working with and all three suggested this place. Obviously we were excited to visit the best steak joint in town. I would be hard pressed to be much more disappointed in our decision. Maybe we get better cuts of meat in the South, but a $40 Ribeye shouldn't look like a $20 Filet. Also, medium rare doesn't mean well done. It wasn't just me either. Both of my co-workers were unimpressed. Both of which complained to me that their meat was overcooked. They were tough and itty bitty. The service was good and so was the side salad. The cocktails that we ordered were perfectly prepared. I just couldn't get over the quality of meat and the poor attention to temperature and prep. They were seasoned well...and by that I mean not over-seasoned. Salt and pepper is all that you need. I wouldn't mind trying it again, but hopefully someone else will be cooking that day.

This restaurant is past its Prime, pun intended. The high prices will fool you. It is low quality. Overlooked steaks. The manager Steve said "I don't make the cows" however they do cook them. Pass on this place as its cows are running downhill.

I had mixed feelings about this place, so I'll break it down into pros and cons Pros: Team - Super friendly, attentive waitstaff and owner. The owner made sure to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our meal. Appetizers - We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and bacon wrapped scallops which were both very good. Tons of crab in the mushrooms and the scallops had a delicious glaze over them. Lobster bisque - very creamy, warm, great flavor! Cons: We ordered the filet mignon and it would have tasted better had we grilled it at home ourselves. Came out lukewarm with not much seasoning. It's like they didn't even salt and pepper it. Very disappointing. Also disappointing were the 1/2 pound of crab legs we ordered - overcooked, boring. This meal ended up being $200 with wine, and normally that would be okay, but considering a third of that cost came from the filet and crab legs, which both sucked, it definitely was not worth it.

My boyfriend and I had dinner last night for our Anniversary. The food and service were great, but we are both sick as dogs! Something we ate was bad, and both of us were up All night sick! However, I will say that they refunded our money. Hope it was just a fluke that we got so sick there! This review was actually from 2013, but didn't realize I hadn't finished it.

We had a lovely dinner on the patio, which is a small raised area just behind the alley entrance from the street--with soft classical music piped in, vines on the brick walls, and umbrellas above the tables. We had a visit from the owner, and excellent service from both hostess and wait staff. The restaurant used fruit and vegetables that were grown locally to produce creative sauces and salads, and we really liked the presentation on pottery plates. We enjoyed the food, drinks and ambiance and would definitely return here when visiting Palisade or Grand Junction. By the way, the restaurant is right downtown in Grand Junction, with shopping and things to see within easy walking distance--and they have a nice bar and creative drink menu. Could be a late afternoon destination....

You gotta be kidding me. The most expensive restaurant in town and it's not even close to justifying the prices. My wife and I had an appetizer, main course and split a bottle of wine and the bill topped $240 with tip. The food is good though. Last time I was there wasn't a good experience. I Ordered prime rib which cost $40 and it was bland, chock full of gristle and I had to send it back. The chef did up a fine blackened ribeye as a replacement but then came out and glared at me from across the room a few times. I'll probably have to re-finance my house to treat a few family members and friends to dinner.

If you are looking for a great steak, I recommend The Winery Restaurant. The Winery is not typically labeled as a steak restaurant, from what I have found by the locals, but they have the best steak in Grand Junction that I've eaten yet. You will find there is a definate gray area when it comes to what locals will recommend to you as far as a good "quality" Grand Junction restaurant. When I asked a few people what they recommended as the "best" steak house in Grand Junction, The Winery never came up for some reason. Many other options were presented, but not of the caliber and quality I wanted. A 20th anniversary special place, or a celebratory dinner where the bill is not a factor is what I was looking for. You will be surprised what people will recommend you while there are much better options that you are told at the time. Our waiter was not pushy and really did take care of us well. We started with the macadamia nut encrusted wheel of Brie as an appetizer, which is deep fried & served with New York flatbread and various other types of crackers. It tasted wonderful and was stretched out for four people while drinking wine. I would recommend another appetizer for a group of four or more. I ordered the Prime Rib dinner and my fiance ordered the 6 ounce steak and everything was wonderful. Our steaks were prepared as requested and you could tell the meat was of a high quality. Our friends ordered the 6 ounce and 12 ounce steak prepared medium and they were also very happy. All dinners included a tossed or caesar salad; baked potato or rice; vegetables. I had the rice and it was very good while everyone else ordered the baked potato. Everyone raved about their potato with sour cream and butter, even though it was just a normal potato, it was better than expected. The vegetables were also excellent. We finished our meal with the Palisade Chocolate cake and the New York Cheesecake. Both desserts were classic and well presented. We ended up taking a slice of each, that we could not finish, home. If you are looking for the best steak in Grand Junction, you need to make a reservation at The Winery Restaurant.

I first started travelling to Junction in the mid-80's, when the best meal in town was the Village Inn. Returned last year for the first time in 15 years, and boy has GJ upped their dining game!! Visited the Winery last year during a Memorial Day weekend golf outing and was extremely surprised by the quality and experience here. I had to try it again this year to rule out the "fluke" factor and must say they did it again - fabulous! I learned my lesson last year and had the special 21 day aged Porterhouse, but didn't bother to ask the price - $58!!! It was wonderful, but buyer beware. This year I had the New York - one of the best tasting steaks I've had in a long, long time. I frequent Sullivan's, the Capitol, Morton's, etc in Denver, and the Winery is right up there. Had the appetizer of bacon wrapped Scallops - great, and the wife had the veal, which she loved. Live piano on the patio playing softly in the background, a bottle of The Prisoner, and my love - - - GREAT JOB

We have been here before but tonight was by far the biggest disappointment. Loud parties and steak 'cooked' raw, twice mind you after sending it back, when originally we ordered our filets and NY strips medium. A little pricier than they should be and drinks are $10. Not as good as they claim to be or once were.

One of my favorite places to eat with my parents a couple times a month. The Best steak in town!! I get the same thing every time. Very clean and elegant place. Friendly staff. No complaints what so ever. I love their dark atmosphere.

You get what you pay for and in the case of the Winery its worth every penny. Everything cooked to perfection, excellent service. Made for a memorable 21st anniversary dinner

My wife and I went to The Winery 35 years ago for our honeymoon, and we returned last night. The place is clearly one of Grand Junction's finest restaurants, and the menu and decor have been continuously updated to remain fresh and appetizing.

This is one of the few fine-dining options Grand Junction has to offer. My first time, I had a pork tenderloin and it was juicy and tender...true to it's name. The second time, I tried the beef couloutte...it was decent, there was not any fat on it, but it was very grainy, and it was to be accompanied by a blue cheese crumble on top--which it was--though I had to struggle to find it. I was not as impressed as I had hoped to be. We also tried the macadamia-nut encrusted brie appetizer...I would recommend skipping it. It was not really soft or melted despite the deep-fried description of it, and it was served with Carr's water crackers and some other flat-bread cracker that had onions on it...not what I prefer to go with my brie, my husband suggested some fresh fruit would have been a nice accompaniment. I ordered a salad with my dinner and requested the balsamic vinaigrette...it was spicy---yes you heard me right---spicy! I had my husband taste it to make sure it wasn't just me...oh no, it was definitely NOT just me, or my husband, but his friend also agreed. There was fresh minced garlic in the dressing that was very spicy and I tasted it for days afterwards...yechhh too overpowering for a salad. Also, on our first occasion here, my parents were in town and we saw the list of desserts...we assumed that they were freshly made on the premises. We were sadly wrong, and our $8 desserts were a huge let-down. We had the apple tart or something of the like--actually tasted like soap...and obviously store-bought. The other dessert we dared was the grilled lemon pound cake...not store bought but an 8 year old could come up with something similar. Foolishly, we thought this would be something more refined, but it's just as it sounds, someone slices pound cake and grills it on a grill...charcoal marks and all, and then it is slathered in jam. Adding ice cream is extra, as it is for pretty much all the desserts. So why the 3 stars with so many complaints, you ask? Well... On the bright side, the service here is by far some of the best I've had in Grand Junction. I love their veggies: carrots and snap peas, though as someone else said, could use some more steaming time. Love the assortment of native and non-native wines. The atmosphere is cozy, and compared to their competitors, it's not like they have many, this is a clear winner by default. Grand Junction is a desert when it comes to good restaurants. I'm not a lover of chain-restaurants, but I'd more likely eat at a Morton's or Flemming's if they had one here.

This was my first dinning experience in Grand Junction as my wife and I were "just passing through". The place we were originally going to go had a 35-40 minute wait so we looked around and stumbled upon the Winery Restaurant in the downtown area. To sum up the experience my wife and I were both very impressed with the service, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food. I had a New York Strip steak and my wife had some pork tenderloin medallions in an apple pepper sauce. The steak was good, about what you might expect at a nice restaurant. The pork, however, was excellent. With an almost melt in your mouth quality that is hard to get with pork. The chef here really has pork down right! It had a very nice crust and a very tender inside. (As there were 4 pork items on the menu that should have been a clue to me to order the pork.) Do yourself a favor and if you go make sure to order something with the pork! The flavors that complimented the pork with my wife's dish were a sweetness from the apple sauce and a kind of bite on the back-end with a mild pepper. (Green?) The presentation of the food was interesting. Square serving dishes made my wife comment, "It looks like some pictures of TV dinners, but tastes like what you WISH the TV dinner tasted like!" The Caesar Salads that came with our dinners were fairly well put together as well. The lettuce was crisp, the dressing was of a high quality, and there was enough cheese on it so that it complimented the other parts of the salad without taking away from them, or by overpowering them. The side veggies seemed like they could have used a bit longer in the steamer. (the veggies were: Carrots, Summer Squash and Brocoli.) While the squash was of excellent quality (and very enjoyable) the carrots were closer to "raw" than cooked and a little hard to chew. The broccoli was also closer to raw than cooked. The rice side they brought grew on me. It looked like a "wild rice" and had mushrooms in it. I'm generally not a big fan of "wild rice" but after a few bites I was hooked, and easily finished up the remainder of it. The bread rolls they brought were interesting. I'm a large fan of bread but the rolls here didn't really play any kind of role in this meal. They seemed a touch more "after-thought" and seemed like they were served because they had to be. Following dinner we enjoyed the dessert on the menu called the "Palisade". Yikes. This was an amazing piece of "cake". The base was an Oreo cookie crust, with a dark chocolate gnash on top of it. Rising above the gnash was a chocolate moose with a piece of dark chocolate stuck into it like a sail. The whole thing sat on a very generous bed of raspberry puree and was delivered on a glass plate looking like "Half Dome" in Yosemite. The wait-staff was very attentive and was able to answer all the questions we had and were prompt in refilling glasses or asking us for drink, food and dessert orders, while also doing a good job of keeping their distance. After we had finished everything my wife commented, "I wonder if they have a room for people to recover from culinary bliss." Which is a perfect way to describe the overall experience at the Winery. The chef knows his flavors and knows how to make the food work together to form the "culinary bliss" you feel after a great meal.

Always great food & drink! Friendly staff and good wine list, make this a excellent mid priced place to nibble or chow down. Definitely get the scallop app, it is the bomb :). Enjoy
